SEARCY, Ark. (Feb. 20, 2018) — The Harding University College of Bible and Ministry will host renowned Christian scholar, philosopher and apologist Dr. William Lane Craig Tuesday, Feb. 27. He will present “Is Penal Substitution Biblical?” at 10 a.m. in the Jim Bill McInteer Bible and World Missions Center room 150 and “Is Penal Substitution Unjust?” at 7 p.m. in Cone Chapel of the David B. Burks American Heritage Building. Admission is free.

Craig is one of the world’s foremost Christian apologists best known for his debates on the existence of God with public figures such as Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens and Lawrence M. Krauss.

“Dr. Craig’s debates and apologetics have been helpful for many Christians seeking to make sense of their own doubts and questions regarding fundamental Christian claims,” said Dr. Kraig Martin, assistant professor of Bible. “How the death of Jesus could have been ‘for our sins’ is a hard and important question, and one in particular that Craig will be discussing.”

Craig is a professor of philosophy at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, California, and Houston Baptist University. He has authored or edited more than 30 books including “Reasonable Faith, The Cosmological Argument from Plato to Leibniz”; “The Son Rises: Evidence for the Historicity of the Resurrection of Jesus”; “Divine Foreknowledge and Human Freedom; Theism, Atheism and Big Bang Cosmology”; and “God, Time and Eternity.” He has also submitted nearly 200 peer-reviewed academic articles in professional journals of theology and philosophy, and he is well known for his many public debates with atheists, agnostics and sceptics. Craig established and oversees the online apologetics ministry www.reasonablefaith.org.

“We are excited to bring Dr. Craig to Harding,” Martin said. “We think Christians of varied theological backgrounds will find the discussion helpful and interesting.”
